Tractor’s Oatmeal Stout

beautyinaglass2_jpg.jpgOver the holidays I was visiting family in my home state of New Jersey and I didn’t pass up the chance to stop at my favorite “candy” store while there. I came across some beers from an oddly named brewery, the Tractor Brewery. The Tractor Brewery is located in New Mexico, but they must contract brew in the Northeast because this was brewed in nearby Pennsylvania. The Oatmeal Stout sounded like something that should come from a farm, so I added that to my shopping cart. (Assuming it was a farm.. turns out they have a restaurant as well, named RIBS) Another reason I chose it was because the bottles were not dusty. (I passed up some very cool looking beer in some very dusty bottles)

Let me tell you… this oatmeal stout may be the second or third best oatmeal stout I’ve ever had. (I know my #1 oatmeal stout, but you can’t get it anymore and that’s another story) It was smooth and creamy; thick and rich. The roasted malt was never burnt or harsh, just right in my opinion.

keggal_jpg.jpgI give the Double Plow Oatmeal Stout a four on our Hop-Talk scale, though it is close to a five. I won’t drive to New Jersey just to get it, but I will get next time I am in New Jersey. I will also try the others they had there which were the Farmer’s Tan Red Ale, the Sod Buster Pale Ale, and the Haymaker Honey Wheat.
