The Session – At the End of the Day

The Session - Beer Blogging FridayI’d like to thank Stan over at Appellation Beer for initiating The Session, a Beer Blog Friday. I think it was a tremendous success and I enjoyed reading what everyone wrote about “Not your father’s Irish stout”. (Stan will be posting has posted the recap on Monday. I’m looking forward to seeing the ones I missed.)

Here at Hop-Talk, Al and I decided to independently review a stout and each write up a review without any correspondence and wait until The Session to see what the other had come up with. In preparation, we wrote up a couple of articles earlier in the week to set the stage. We wrote about…

We were lucky enough to find a stout that neither of us had ever had before and could purchase at each of our local distributors, the Rogue Shakespeare Stout. The reviews were quite similar with both of us noting the darkness, the malt notes of coffee / chocolate, the hop bitterness and the well-rounded smoothness of the beer overall. We also were in agreement that while it is a fantastic beer, it is quite pricey.

Read them here…

We even would have given it the same Unofficial Hop-Talk Rating if I had only known that we were allowed to give ½ scores!
