Saranac Black Diamond Bock
It wasn’t until Valentine’s Day of 2007 that the northeastern United States received a decent amount of snow, and it came in the form of a blizzard. Finally, the ski mountains are enjoying a good season, and so I couldn’t resist trying out this Black Diamond Bock by Saranac. Saranac has released this bock for a limited time, and like the snow around here, I figure I better get a taste before it is all gone.
Again, just like the Imperial IPA, I like the label on this bear, err, I mean beer better than many of the others. Now, I’m not the best one to rate a bock because it is not one of my favorite styles of beer; but, I do know what they should taste like, and I know what I like.
Technically speaking, a traditional German bock should be dark, malty and full bodied with moderate hop bitterness that shouldn’t ever over power the sweet malt. It is also a lager.
I found this beer quite enjoyable. It was complex and crisp with lots of malt flavor. It wasn’t massively sweet, which is something I tend to prefer. I’m interested in hearing other beer blogger’s opinions on this bock and bocks in general. I tell ‘ya, you certainly can’t beat it for $5.79 a six pack.
