Bluebird Bitter – Coniston Brewery

Bluebird Bitter - Coniston BreweryAnd now back to the English ales. Since Bailey recommended it so highly, I thought I should next have the Bluebird Bitter from Coniston.

What they say about it:

A single varietal hop beer. A good session ale with its golden color and light, clean, quality taste. An inviting hoppy aroma giving way to a good dry finish.

A nice light amber color with some slight chill haze. Two-fingers’ worth of head with a good bit of staying power. Grassy aroma, with perhaps a little lemon zest? Mouthfeel is light, with neither the malt nor the hops dominating. Very refreshing. At 4.2% ABV this is the epitome of a session beer. It’s been 90°F and up in the Washington, DC area the last two weeks; this really hits the spot.

I’m glad it made the trip from England in good shape. If it weren’t so darned expensive I think I’d make it one of my regulars. Still, I recommend it.
