Welcome to summer. It has been hotter than blue blazes around the Washington, DC Metro area lately, and today is no exception. So it seems like a good day for a wheat beer. As it happens, I have a bottle of Baltika №8 Wheat beer (Балтика №8 Пшеничное) in my refrigerator. (Graciously donated by Vinodel.)
Here’s what they say about it:
This beer is not filtered and contains biologically active substances that are useful for our health.
Obviously not a statement cleared by the FDA, but that’s all right.
Light straw in color and pretty clear for a wheat. Fluffy white head that hangs around a bit. Nice aroma of citrus and cloves.
Crisp, with more of that citrus flavor. Refreshing for sure. 5% ABV.

The only wheat beer I’ve tried from beyond the Oder-Nysa line is Svyturys Baltas from Lithuania, but I was extremely impressed by it. Sort of a caricature of a German wheat beer – lots of banana and bubblegum. I’d love to try some of Baltika’s more interesting beers but, despite a big Russian population in London, it’s the bog-standard lager or nothing here.
I must say, it has to be one the best Wheats. and comming from Russia I was quite supprised
