I’ve had other Appalachian Brewing Company beers, but hadn’t encountered their Purist Pale Ale until I picked up a six-pick the other day. It’s one of their flagship beers. I’ve been trying to buy local, but I can’t believe I hadn’t seen it before now.
Here’s what they say:
Our light copper pale ale has a delicate malt attribute balanced by an aggressive hop flavor and aroma. Many American micros have developed their own version of this classic English style beer. Our brewers anticipate that you will enjoy their variation.
Hikers on the Appalachian Trail are considered “purist hikers” if they cover every inch of the trail during the hike. Our brewers refuse to compromise the quality of our products with the “purist hiker” in mind.
Copper-colored, with a little chill haze. Two fingers of off-white head that has some staying power. Nice malt character with some fruity and nutty character from the hops. I wouldn’t characterize the malt as “delicate” or the hop flavor as “aggressive”, as they seem to think it is, but it is nicely balanced. Rather refreshing, actually. I will be making this one of my regulars. Recommended.
I have recently refound the ABC and thoroughly enjoyed their beers. I didn’t know about the Purist, is a fairly new addition?? My parents live in the H-burg and I will have to have them get me some. Sounds good to me.
