Session #7 Announced: Brew Zoo

The Session - Beer Blogging FridayRick Lyke of Lyke 2 Drink has announced the topic for The Session #7:

Brew Zoo

(This should not be confused with Brew at the Zoo.)

Have you ever noticed how many animals show up on beer labels? We have lions and tigers and bears, plus various birds, reptiles, fish, assorted domesticated and wild animals, plus a few mythical creatures. For whatever reason brewers have a tradition of branding their beers using everything from pets to predators. The Brew Zoo will celebrate these lagers and ales.

Your assignment for The Session #7 is to go on a beer safari and help stock our Brew Zoo with animals large and small. This is one hunt that even PETA should not protest.

Happy hunting!

Too easy. The closest brewery to me is Wild Goose. They are, of course, owned by Flying Dog. They also contract brew for Clay Pipe, including their Backfin Pale Ale which features a crab on the label. Not to mention that I’m not very far from the bottling operations of Dogfish Head and Flying Fish.

So challenge becomes, for me, deciding what to choose. Sampling six different beers for the last Session was fun, but a bit of a nightmare logistically. I think I’ll stick to one. But what? I’d like to get something no one else writes up. Then again I also have to get something we haven’t written up here before. And, of course, I want to find something local.

Looks like some research is in order.

The Session will be held on Friday, September 7, 2007.
