Guinness – Good things come to those who wait

I don’t know about you, but I have a thing for Rube Goldberg devices. Maybe it’s all the dominoes I toppled in my youth. Or perhaps it was all of the Coyote and Roadrunner cartoons.

The Telegraph has an article today about the making of Guinness’ latest television advertisement. I don’t know if/when we’ll see it in the States, but it’s supposed to air for the first time tonight in the U.K.

From the moment Guinness used a Toucan to promote its dark stout, the brewery’s adverts have always been iconic.

Its latest and most expensive one, which will be shown tonight for the first time, is no exception.

Shot in an Argentinian mountainside village, it features a game of dominoes which escalates to include suitcases, tyres, oil drums, fridges, wardrobes and cars.

The Beer Mag

I don’t often pick up magazines at the newsstand, but how could I pass up on this brand new magazine simply named, Beer. The cover was actually a turn off because it looked as though it was aimed at your stereotypical American megabrew beer drinker with the photo of a blond trying to open a bottle with her teeth and article captions of “7 Ways to Open a Beer”, “Great American Beer Challenge” and “Toilet Paper Wipeout”

thebeermag.jpgHowever, upon closer examination, I noticed that the bottle she was holding was a Pyramid Hefe Weizen and that got me to look inside. I read Derek Buono’s, the executive editor, introductory comments and he was saying a lot of the things Al and I have talked about on Hop Talk which we sum up in our slogan,

while life is not all about beer, beer is all about life.

So far, I have learned that www.bud.tv is a website for all of Bud Light’s great commercials and that Stone Brewing is doing what they can to keep the planet green converting some of their delivery fleet to bio-diesel power. I have only had a chance to glance through the magazine so far, but if I find it worthy of blogging about further, for good or for worse, you can count on read it here.  (Though, I may skip the toilet paper article.)
