I have a friend who actually prefers his beers with that skunky taste. Not overpowering, but likes those easy to drink, slightly skunked, European imports in a green bottle.
Not me, man. I don’t find that skunky taste easy to drink.
He also can’t stand IPA’s… way too much hops for him. But, this is not a put down and I don’t hold it against him. Truly, this friend of mine is a world traveler, enjoys fine wines, and fine food. So how can he be like this about beer? Because as I’ve already pointed out… you can’t be wrong.
I know the type. They’ve bought into the whole “American beer sucks” message. Europeans know their beer SOOOO much better, and the first one they come across is that ubiquitous green bottle with the red star.
And, by golly, since it’s from Europe, this must be what beer is supposed to taste like.
A lot of these same guys will also pore over wine lists and scoff at blended Scotch.
that beer in a green bottle is actually pretty drinkable when in europe (although i’d prefer an imperial stout/ipa if you could get em over there).
I had a Sapporo the other day when I took my daughter out to the local hibachi steakhouse and I really enjoyed it… mostly because it came in that cool looking can and hence no skunk!
