GonzoFest is Flying Dog Brewing‘s second annual celebration of life, beer, and Hunter S. Thompson. I’ve previously posted details of the event:
GonzoFest – September 12, 2009 – Frederick, Maryland
I have two extra tickets, so I’ve decided to give them away to some lucky Hop Talk reader.
How to Enter
It’s very simple. Just leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite Flying Dog beer. Bonus points for stating why it’s your favorite.
In order to ensure enough time to get the tickets to the winner, I am going to make the cut-off time Noon (EDT), Sunday, September 5, 2009. (That’s UTC-0400.)
Determining the Winner
I will choose one person at random from all the comments describing a favorite Flying Dog beer that are left before the deadline.
The Fine Print
- You must be 21 years of age to get into GonzoFest, so you’ll need to be 21 to win this contest
- This is only for tickets to the event. Any costs associated with transportation, lodging, bail, etc. is the responsibility of the winner
- The decision of the judge (me) is final
So tell me: What’s your favorite Flying Dog beer?
(The contest is now closed. I’ll announce the winner shortly.)
GONZO Imperial Porter. Because it’s all HST.
“I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me”
HUGE HST fan, named my first born Hunter. Anything that honors HST is all right by me.
I would have to say Double Dog!
It is so rich and smooth, but then it grabs a hold of you and bites.
Not only my fave Flying Dog, but I would probably say my fave DIPA.
I like the Gonzo Imperial porter, but it’s a bit much to be more than once in a while. It’s my “treat” beer.
But I love me some Snakedog IPA.
Here’s the deal … Out in Washington State … Tons of friends in Frederick … Got a ticket … need a chance to get away before the snow … have never tasted your beer … sad … Later
My person favorite is their Beer De Garde, hands down one of the best and a excellent representation of the style.
Id have to go with the Doggie Style Classic Pale Ale. Its an everyday beer, mostly because I drink it…every day.
Hmm…This is a tough one but I would have to say my all time favorite BEER is the Flying Dog Amber Lager! There are not many Amber Lagers on sale in Rhode Island. I dicovered it about 4 months ago. Its my favorite because to me its absolutely refreshing. Simple as that…although I haveto say every flying dog I try is fabulous! Thanks for distributing it in RI! I would gladly drive down to MD for this festival if given the chance. Cheers!
It’s hard to me to take a decision, i love almost all flying dog beers, but if i have to choose, i think snake dog is the one. I love IPA and snake dog is just perfect to me, but how i said, i like it all, in fact, im takeing a road dog porter right now.
Gotta be Woody Creek White. Me and the wife got a tour with Tom at the brewery in Frederick and it was awesome! Has to be one of the best places on earth to work. I’m sooo jealous of those guys there.
I absolutely love Tire Bite (Golden Ale). It is a great tasting ale that is perfect for having with a meal, snacks or when just sitting around with friends. A close runner up is In Wheat Ale.
Gonzo Imperial Porter or the Road Dog Porter
don’t make me choose one over the other
they are so dark and delicious and like my children
come to Momma, my precious
Gonzo Imperial Porter.
It is dark, bitter, and full of booze, like Hunter S. Thompson was. Gonzo is a crazy experiment of flavors and tastes. The concoction of porter flavors with a stout thickness is unique and extremely enjoyable to drink.
Tire Bite, simply because it’s damn good. However, what first attracted me to it was the picture on the label. My son and I had just ridden the full C&O canal (190+/- miles) camping, getting doused in a rainstorm at the end, my bike shorts full of sand from the sprint down the towpath in the Georgetown area, and it just seemed to be the right picture for the occasion. It reminds me of that when I have one. It’s also the only drinking beer I keep around the house, I have a couple I use for cooking marinades and things, but I can’t bring myself to use Tire Bite for that purpose.
Snakedog. It is also my favorite IPA. so much fresh hop aroma and flavor. Somehow, it always seems fresher than other IPAs.
Hard to choose but I’d say Woody Creek White. Great summer brew.
my FAVORITE flying dog beer is..IN HEAT! The first time i read that name..i just had to have it.The name doesnt even justify that taste. I love the banana orangie taste. its a flavor that stays in your mouth and doesnt give you the bitter taste. Its very smooth going down. I only get it when i go to flying dog, its just a great refreshing beer! CANT GET ENOUGH OF IT..ill be there saturday drinkin it up! yumm yumm Good Beer..NO SHIT!
DOGGIE STYLE…nuff said!! actually, anything with a dog is fine by me….
Doggie Style Pale Ale is damn good.
.-= Christopher Vigliotti’s last blog ..Gone Homebrewin’ =-.
Woody Creek White – Belgian style Wit Beer
Because I use to live in Woody Creek, near the namesake ranch where this fine, fine brewery was started a few decades ago.
Doggy Style. Love the balance of the malt and hops. The closest to perfection I have tasted. Also happens to be my favorite in another category other than beer.
SNAKE DOG IPA – THE BEST IPA OUT THERE!!!! it’s got a kick azz bite! and the 7.1% hit’s the spot. Shepherdstown WV.
Flying Dog Classic Pale Ale!!
Why is this my favorite Flying Dog? Well, this beer has a classic taste that is easy to drink more than one…two… even three! I taste a nice nutty flavor and it goes well with my burger. Lets just say it was better than their Wheat, which I love their wheat; but Wheat is good for the summer season and Pale Ale is good for all seasons.
Hands Down — Woody Creek! I am already sad it will be over soon – till next year. The hint of orange is very subtle but great! && no terrible after taste! Proof of my affinity for the sweet summer ale — there is cases of it stashed all over my house.
Can’t wait for gonzofest!
Double down on the Double Dog. It’s greatness is inexplicable. There’s nothing greater than a growler of the Double D and a group of friends on a Saturday afternoon.
Favorite doggie is like pickin’ your favorite kid (wouldn’t be prudent…)but here it goes – Old Scratch, um or maybe Doggie Style, no it’d be Tire Bite. (psssst Wild Goose IPA is pretty effin good too)
It’s a tough call between the Gonzo Porter and the Amber, but I’m going to have to go with the Old Scratchl. You can’t go wrong with the malty refreshing goodness. Simple and yummy.
I would have to say Dogtoberfest. It’s on the darker side of beer and isn’t so hoppy tasting. Definitely a great beer.
Woody Creek White…it’s the perfect summer beer, and quite hard to find in Baltimore…however…I made it my mission to find it one night, went to 10 different liquor stores but finally found it at the last one. I am a huge Hunter S. Thompson fan and have a tattoo of the bats from Fear & Loathing.
Horn Dog Barley Wine. What’s better than a malty dark beer you can have with dessert that will kick your a$$…
Double Dog hands down smooth and refreshing with a little kick on the end. Went on a recent tour and what a great way to enjoy beer and spend time with good folks!
Without a doubt Double Dog!!! great anytime of the year, love that strong sweet citrusy taste and that amazing hoppy aroma of the beer! the multitude of flavors have a violent battle in my mouth and the bitterness in the end is just perfect. Sadly the last beer in the pack always tastes the best; maybe cause it ages really well or i just cant wait to buy some more!
Double Dog ALL THE WAY!
