A sixer of news items on beer that we spotted recently.
BBC News: Anheuser-Busch InBev to cut 800 European jobs
That’s about 10% of their European workforce and is ” a response to falling beer sales”. Well, if they made any products I’d want to drink…

This was my second visit to Watch City Brewing in Waltham, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston. (My first trip recounts a return trip was warranted.) The bar room was not too busy, but not entirely empty early on for a Monday Night Football evening. I would have liked to stay longer, but it was a long [...]
Beer-a-Day #300
JavaHead Stout contains a blend of locally roasted espresso and Kenyan coffee beans by St. Thomas Roasters in Linglestown, PA.
JavaHead’s recipe is based off of our original oatmeal stout. After the boil, the hot wort passes through our hopback vessel on it’s way to fermentation. Packed full of whole leaf hops and a bed of ground [...]
Beer-a-Day #280
Ron loves this stout. Why wouldn’t he? It’s big and bold and full of hop goodness.
With a huge, Pacific Northwest hop aroma & character upfront, Storm King subsides into massive, roast malt complexity. More flavor than mere words can adequately describe. Rich and substantial, it will warm your heart.
Dark as midnight on a moonless [...]
Beer-a-Day #220
To mark the 250 year anniversary of the signing of the lease on St. James’s Gate Brewery by Arthur Guinness, we introduce a special commemorative stout. This premium recipe provides a refreshing taste, which underlies the complex flavor of stout.
I guess I’m a little behind the times on this. Better late than never I [...]
Beer-a-Day #147
The Starr Hill web site proclaims this to be the most decorated dry irish stout in the country.
Dark, dark brown with a tan head. Lots of chocolate and roastiness in the aroma. Roast coffee flavors. It’s very good.

I finally got around to sampling the new Leinenkugel Classic Amber. Leinenkugel is not a beer I would normally pick up from the shelves at my local candy store. The name sounds so European that you would never guess that it is made in Wisconsin. (German in origin if you want to look it up)
The beer [...]

Beer-a-Day #115
“Widget Week” continues.
Dark brown with a creamy beige head. Tiny bubbles, of course. Smells a bit like french roast coffee. More coffee roastiness in the flavor and a light body.

Mahogany with a thin, medium-brown head. I would describe the aroma as “warm”, with plenty of chocolaty undertones. Dry, roasty finish.

Beer-a-Day #89
Chocolate brown with a thick tan head. A bit of chocolate in the aroma to go with the roastiness.Perhaps a bit more bite from the carbonation than I generally like in a stout, but not too bad.A bit of coffee in the flavor.

I think you may have gotten a bad bottle as I’ve had this brew before and enjoyed it. To be honest, I like their Double Chocolate Stout a lot better than their regular version. The double is so much richer and flavorful.

I agree with Dave. I had FCB Chocolate Stout both on tap at their tasting room and in bottles recently and both tasted great. Don’t write them off just yet, I’d say give them another try when you come across something that sounds good.

I will probably do some recon on their freshness…
