“The Zythophile” has a fascinating history of the use of hops in beer. As you might expect, we have a certain fondness for those little flower cones. A short history of hops When exactly hops began to be cultivated for putting into beer, rather than just being gathered wild from forests, is surprisingly unclear. German

Chili and beer (not to be confused with chili beer) is an awesome combination. This pairing is one of my all time favorites. I have many chili recipes but my standard is a favorite of everyone in the family and it is the easy to make. Chili con Carne 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 medium

Beer-a-Day #292 The name CascaZilla is a play on both the name of our local Cascadilla Gorge and the monster amounts of Cascade hops in this beer. This red ale gets its distinctive color from a healthy portion of caramel malt, which also lends some body and sweetness to the beer. The predominant flavor and

Located in Great Barrington MA, the Barrington Brewery brews up barrels of bubbly beer in the beautiful Berkshires. (try and beat that alliteration) We started with the sampler made up of their: Blonde, Pale Ale, Brown Ale, Stout, & Oktoberfest. A couple of weeks ago Tom Flores, the brewmaster at Brewer’s Alley stopped into our F.O.A.M. meeting to let us sample their Kölsch, which they’re now also bottling. (They’ve been bottling their pilsner for quite some time.) He also let us know that we would start seeing rising prices for supplies. Malting barley as well

While Ron and Al take a little break, please enjoy this guest post from Bailey of boakandbailey.com, based in London. It’s still comparatively rare to see American beer in bars and pubs in London. Almost every place now has at least one Belgian beer, even if it’s only Leffe, whilst some of the best places

Oof! So sorry Alton Brown’s beer bread let you down! I’m surprised. Will have to try his recipe. In the meantime, here’s a link to mine- it’s been foolproof so far, and receptive to different variations of flavor, added ingredients and beer.
