Recommended feeds bundle

If you use Google Reader to read your blog feeds (and by our count, an awful lot of you do) we’ve put together a bundle of feeds that we think you should be reading. They’re all about beer, of course, and they’re the guys that we read daily.

You can get it here: Hop Talk Recommends bundle

For those of you who don’t use Google Reader, you can also download an OPML file from the same location.

Got a favorite beer blog we haven’t heard about? Let us know.

Two thousand subscribers

My friend Feedburner tells me that we have, as of last Monday, over 2,000 subscribers to our RSS feed.

Wow.

Ron and I together using all of the different avenues to consume an RSS feed couldn’t even come close to a hundredth of that. Thanks for making room in your subscription list for our mostly coherent ramblings.

For our new subscribers: Welcome! Belly on up to the bar. There’s plenty of room. For our long-time subscribers: Thanks for sticking with us.

Sláinte!

p.s., For those of you who only read us via RSS, we’re trying a new look out here. Stop in and tell us what you think.

Welcome new subscribers!

I’ve noticed that the RSS subscriber numbers here have suddenly increased by quite a bit. I think I’ve discovered the reason for it.

My RSS reader of choice is Google Reader. One of the helpful features that Google Reader offers is bundling blogs on related topics together, making it easy to find lots of content on the stuff you find interesting. (You can see them at http://www.google.com/reader/view/#directory-page.)

Well, they seem to have recently created a “Beer” bundle (among others) and Hop Talk is one of the ten blogs featured. I’m glad to say that the other nine blogs there have long been on my reading list; you’d be well-served to include them as well.

In any event, I just want to extend a welcome to all of our new subscribers.

RSBS: Really Simple Beer Syndication

I like reading about beer almost as much as I like drinking it. If you’re from anywhere near New York, you probably remember those old SYMS commercials: “An educated consumer is our best customer.” Sure, they were shilling mens suits, but I think the idea is the same. The more I learn about beer the more I come to appreciate it.

Beerinator offers a service called Really Simple BEER Syndication (RSBS) which, as you can probably guess, aggregates beer blogs and other feeds from around the world. Nearly 100 at last count, including, we’re proud to say, Hop Talk.

If you prefer to read your feeds in a news aggregator (I do) you can download an OPML file which most of your modern RSS aggregators can consume. If not, RSBS offers views of the previous 24 hours, 48 hours, and a week.

So, grab yourself a nice cold one and read some of the best beer commentary on the net.
