Monkey Wrench Saison Ale

My step-sister* visited recently and brought me a six-pack of 750ml bottles from Fegley’s BrewWorks. The “BrewWorks” consist of three locations in the Lehigh Valley.

I visited the Allentown location (or was it Bethlehem?) a looooong time ago and haven’t had a chance to get back. Besides, she brought it all that way…

It’s a pale yellow color, like corn silk, and clear (which is unusual for the style). Fizzy white head. Fruity aroma with some orange zest. Light, fruity flavor, with a bit of bite, probably from the carbonation and the 7% ABV. Pretty refreshing on a hot July day, if a bit overcarbonated.

Capitol City Brewing Organic Saison

Capitol City BrewingBeer-a-Day #144

My sister-in-law and niece are visiting over the holiday weekend, so we went down to D.C. to take in the sights.

We had a very pleasant lunch at Capitol City’s downtown location. Their current seasonal offering is an organic saison. I’ve been getting into saisons lately, after having never had them at all.

The pineapple in the aroma was very noticeable, and it was quite good. My wife also had and enjoyed one. Best get one before they’re all gone.

Heavy Seas Red Sky At Night…

Heavy Seas Red Sky at NightBeer-a-Day #132

Not too many saisons grace my icebox. I can probably count the number of pints I’ve had on one hand.

Pale yellow; white head. Obviously a Belgian yeast with a lot of complex aromas. Fruity, bubblegum, maybe a little cinnamon. Flavor is complex without overdoing it.

This isn’t something I’d like on a regular basis, but it makes a very pleasant change of pace.
