An Evening Out

It is not often that we get to go out for a nice evening without the kids so it is a good thing that last Saturday worked out to be a night to be remembered. A group of us (13 altogether) went out for dinner, drinks and the theater. Specifically it was Thai food, martini’s and Spamalot.

singha.jpgWe started our evening at the Bangkok Bistro, a Thai restaurant and martini bar in Schenectady, NY. At the bar, I sampled some martini’s and Thai beer, their most popular, Singha. The martini’s were fantastic, the beer was only ok, at best. Despite the brown bottles, there was a hint of skunk in this typical imported lager. (They also had Guinness)

That didn’t dampen the fun, however. I met some new people, one of which brews his own beer. With a snowy football game on (Green Bay vs. Seattle), craft beer fans, and beer to drink, the chat was easy to come by.

Dinner was spicy and great. I love Thai food, especially for the curry and other spices. I actually switched back to the Singha beer for dinner as the lager is a better pairing with the spices. (plus, it was what everyone else was drinking so it was easy to order with all of the chatter)

ni.jpgAfter dinner we headed over to Proctor’s Theater to see Spamalot. I have to say, these were the worst seats I have ever had at this theater… any theater for that matter, and I’ve been to quite a few. Spamalot, however, didn’t disappoint. It was a good mix of directly ripped off scenes of the Holy Grail and other Monty Python shows mixed with new material, new punch lines and silly musical numbers. (You have to like musicals a bit, or you might be saying, “stop all that singing!”)

We topped off the evening with a night cap at a friend’s house with some Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA and dessert. (obviously, I wasn’t the DD)

Good food, good friends, good times… good atmosphere.

Bored? Go toss some cows.
